Movies and sewing!

I love watching movies like Marie-Antoinette when I'm sewing but I think I've seen most films featuring this particular era. Any recommendations? No Kiera Knightley films though. I absolutely detest her!

  1. I am sure you have already covered this one, but how about the Norma Shearer Marie Antoinette movie?

  2. It looks good but I can't seem to find it anywhere in Sweden. I'll have to get Madame Berg (http://madameberg.blogspot.com/) to buy it from Amazon for me. :)

  3. Have you seen The Affair of the Necklace?

  4. Have you seen the HBO John Adam's Series? Excellent! Also, I love A Jefferson in Paris, not so much for the story line, but for the costumes. I love to watch it while I'm sewing :-D

  6. I like "L'anglaise et le duc" very much, it is based on the memoires of Grace Elliot the mistress of the duc d'orleans and is about her life during the french revolution. The costumes are absolutely adorable and highly authentic.
Also a good film about the french revolution is "la revolution francaise"

  7. Absolutely! Keira is ok for the Pirates of the Carribean or kicking Beckham around... but seriously, no historical drama, please. She's just not the one for it...
Anyway, have you seen Elisa di Rivombrosa? It's an Italian 18th century drama TV-novella (50episodes...). Absolutely gorgeous and in two seasons. The DVD is only available in Italian though, and although I cant speak it, I understood the whole thing quite well. There is a sequel to it for Empire time. It's La figlia de Elisa or sth...

  9. Have you seen The Slipper and the Rose?
it is pretty historically incorrect because it is a fairytale (remake of Cinderella) but its got some lovely costumes and colours. Its also quite silly.

  10. I can't say that I detest her, but there is something about her that I find annoying.
